After lunch, we continued onto the low sand dunes of Thornton State Beach. The ice plant and yellow bush lupine were in full bloom and reminded us of how beautiful the coast can be. We bypassed a sand-ladder staircase in favor of a steep chute that took us to the top of the bluff near Fort Funston. After watching a few hang gliders, we proceeded to Stern Grove.

Is this a city park or a race track for dogs?

Is this a city park or a race track for dogs?

On the last day, we walked past interesting churches, beautifully landscaped homes and many city parks. We took a small detour to climb to the top of Twin Peaks. As we stood there admiring the panoramic view, one thought kept coming to me: how wonderful it was to explore the Bay Area on foot and to meet so many genuinely friendly people.
